Man caught with drugs at Vietnam-China border

Police in Mong Cai city bordering China's Guangxi Province have caught a Vietnamese man trying to transport over 5 kg of white substance suspected to be heroin into China.

According to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, the amount is up to 11 kilograms.

Police at Bac Son border post in Mong Cai city on Dec. 9 found a suspicious man seeking ways to illegally leave for China and later caught him with the white substance.

36-year-old Le Hiep confessed to police that two days prior to his arrest, he received the substance from an unknown man in Hai Phong who hired him to transport it from Noi Bai airport to China. Local authorities are testing the substance to determine if they are drugs.

According to a recent report, Vietnamese police busted 19,500 drug-related cases, detained 29,700 drug traffickers and seized 390.3 kilograms of heroin in 2012.
