Don’t burn by director Dang Nhat Minh has won the hearts of Argentinean audiences after it was screened at the third Political Film Festival in Buenos Aires on March 22. The film was produced in 2008 and is based on a diary kept by army doctor Dang Thuy Tram of the Liberation Army during the most violent wartime on the central province of Quang Ngai ’s battlefields. Tram was killed on the battlefield at the age of 27. Her diary was found by a US soldier who looked after it for 35 years before returning it to her family. The film has won many domestic and foreign prizes, including Vietnam ’s Golden Kite Award and the Fukuoka Audience Award at the Fukuoka International Film Festival in Japan . Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina Nguyen Van Dao appreciated the film festival organisers for introducing Don’t burn to the country, which is seen as one of the region’s film-powers. Medina Maria Elena, a Paraguayan national living in Buenos Aires , said she was moved when she saw the pain Vietnamese people suffered during the war. The audience member said she could only find love and patriotism in the war-themed film, expressing her hope that it will be screened across Latin America.
