The Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment Vietnam (VACNE) recently recognized five centenary trees at Lam Kinh historical relic in northern Thanh Hoa province as heritage trees for better protection, raising the number of such trees to 482.
Four of the trees are banyan (Ficus bengalensis) and Plumeria trees, aged 300-600 years and the remaining one is almost 300 years old. One of them measures over 3m in diameter and has an over-7-m-wide base.
According to the relic management, another 14 age-old trees of various kinds which grow in the relic’s main area have also been filed for the recognition.
Several more long-time trees in neighboring provinces including Thai Binh, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho and Hai Phong were also granted the recognition at the same time.
The recognition means providing the precious trees better care and protecting them from alarming leave drying, uprooting, dying and illegal felling.
