A group of Vietnamese brought their cars whose bodies feature maps showing Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes an automotive event held in the U.S. from late May to early June.

The “Gia Lai Team,” including Vietnamese car lovers living in the U.S., marked their attendance at the Goldrush Rally GR6 2014, a car festival organized from May 31 to June 7, by introducing their cars which showcase Vietnamese maps on the bodies indicating that Hoang Sa and Truong Sa are part of Vietnam.

The maps were designed using decal papers and carefully decorated by the team before being displayed at the fest, attracting the attention from not only visitors and car enthusiasts but also the media thanks to the unique idea.

After being published on several online newspapers and forums for car lovers, the idea received strong support from Vietnamese viewers, as it helped assert the country’s sea and island sovereignty as well as promoted its jurisdiction over the territorial waters to international friends.

The Vietnamese team brought five cars to the event, including two Ferrari 458 Italia & Spiders, a Lamborghini Aventador, an Audi R8 V8 and a Maserati Quattroporte.

At this year’s Goldrush Rally GR6, which was first held in 2009, participants started their journey in Las Vegas and ended it in New York with stops in Park City, Denver, Chicago, Cleveland, and Washington DC.
