Over the last three days, the young Vietnamese netizen community has expressed their shock over the death of Toan Shinoda, a well-known vlogger (video blogger) based in Hanoi.
News about the sudden death of the 27-year-old vlogger, who has more than 970,000 followers on his Facebook page, on Thursday spread over social networks and newswires, causing a stir among Toan’s fans.
Dr. Tran Minh Dao, director of the Ministry of Public Security of Hospital 198, has confirmed with Tuoi Tre that Toan’s body was transferred to the hospital’s funeral home on July 25.
However, the cause of death has not been revealed.
Toan Shinoda, whose real name is Tran Vu Toan, is a former student from the Hanoi-Amsterdam Specialized High School. Toan graduated from the prestigious Wesleyan University in the U.S. Upon graduation, he returned to live and work in Vietnam.
Toan shot to fame around a year ago after he posted humorous video blogs on Youtube. The videos covered various topics of modern social issues from love, friendship and sex before marriage to reality shows, Flappy Bird and backpacking tourism.
He is also known for music videos in which he sings, raps. and covers famous bands like the Backstreet Boys and Linkin Park. He has received many comments from viewers praising him for his fluent English.
Toan’s videos on how to learn English effectively have also received many likes.
Toan has nearly 650,000 subscribers on Youtube and receives around 500,000 to 1 million views for each video he posts.
Toan’s most popular videos include “Ban Tin Nem Da Cuoi Nam 2012” (Funny 2012 Year-end News) with around 1.5 million views, “Tinh Phi” (Love Cost) with nearly 600,000 views, and “Trao Luu Trong gioi Tre” (Youths’ trends) with more than 500,000 views.
His latest video, “An Kem Truoc Cong,” focuses on the topic of sex before marriage. It has received 472,000 views on Youtube.
