The 3rd Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF), set to run in late November, will showcase more than 300 films from 32 countries and territories.

The biennial festival, to run in Hanoi from November 23 to 27, will feature 327 films, including internationally competing ones.

The films come from countries and territories with robustly developed movie industries, including China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Germany, France, the U.K. and U.S.

The festival’s opening and closing is set to take place at Viet Xo Cultural Center, at 91 Tran Hung Dao, Hoan Kiem District, at 8pm on November 23 and 27 and will be aired live on national television VTV1 and VTV4.

According to Ngo Phuong Lan, head of Vietnam Cinema Department, at the Thursday press conference, this year’s festival features two categories, which are full-length movies and short films.

The two categories will each include features, cartoons and documentaries.

“Ilo Ilo,” a 2013 Singaporean family film by director Anthony Chen, is highly likely to compete at this year’s HANIFF, according to the organizer.

The film, which features an international cast, became the first Singaporean feature film to win the Camera d'Or award at the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival.

“Ilo Ilo” also won big at Taiwan’s 2013 Golden Horse Awards and was selected as the Singaporean entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards.

Other highlights of this year’s HANIFF include workshops on the partaking countries’ movie industries, a creation camp, and a project market. The organizer added that several international stars, including famed Hollywood actor/director/producer Eli Roth and his fiancée Lorenza Izzo, and veteran actress Colleen Camp are expected to grace the festival’s red carpet.

The jury will also boast international filmmakers.

The winner of the highest award will pocket US$5,000.
