Tuoi Tre Newspaper holds photo essay exhibit celebrating 40th anniversary

Wednesday, August 26, 2015, 12:19 GMT+7

An exhibition featuring photo essays which have been published in Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper will be on display in Ho Chi Minh City starting today, August 26.

The event, titled “Những câu chuyện ảnh từ trang báo” (Photo Stories from the Newspaper) and held by the newspaper, gathers 45 photo essays published in its publications, including the daily, weekend and online ones.

It features a variety of topics, such as measles, firefighting, orphans, the drug market, protecting the country’s water and rescuing workers trapped in a collapsed tunnel in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong last year.

The one-week exhibit, running until September 2, is part of a series of activities to celebrate the newspaper’s 40th anniversary of establishment, from September 2, 1975 to September 2, 2015.

“Each photo is a work and each photo essay is a story about the country and life, which has many issues to be concerned about,” local journalist Huynh Dung Nhan said about the exhibition.

“Besides, these humane photo essays also share and reflect questions on finding solutions to change and perfect life.

“The stories also show that their young, brave authors worked with passion."

The exhibition’s opening ceremony will be held at 4pm today at the city’s Youth Cultural House, at 4 Pham Ngoc Thach Street in District 1.

Within the framework of the exhibition, a photo essay contest under the theme of “Việt Nam - Đất nước - Con người” (Vietnam – the Country – the People) will be held from August 26 to July 30 of next year by the newspaper, in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists.

The contest will provide an abundant supply of photo essays to Tuoi Tre Newspaper in the future, as the paper is working to bring more touching stories to its readers.

Besides, Tuoi Tre is also launching an improvement campaign on its look and quality, with one of the focuses on journalism photos, and stricter requirements will be applied to reach the target of more impressive photo essays.

In addition, a book release will take place at the exhibition venue from 5pm to 6pm on the exhibition's opening day, introducing three books from the “Tuổi Trẻ 40 năm” (40 years of Tuoi Tre) collection.

The books include "Báo Tuổi Trẻ 40 năm hình thành và phát triển" (Tuoi Tre Newspaper – 40 years of Establishment and Development), "Chuyện nghề - chuyện người" (Stories on Journalism and Journalists) and "Báo Tuổi Trẻ đã viết" (What Was in Tuoi Tre Newspaper).
