Thousands of people flocked to Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street and Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1, downtown Ho Chi Minh City on Monday evening to enjoy the spectacular fireworks display in honor of Vietnam’s 79th National Day.
On the evening, roads surrounding the promenade and park were packed with people and parked vehicles as they attempted to secure the best place to watch the fireworks display, scheduled for 9:00 pm.
Road closures were in effect from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm in preparation and for added safety.
Waves of people filled the main roads, such as Ton Duc Thang, Ham Nghi, and Le Loi in District 1, and Nguyen Tat Thanh and Ben Van Don in neighboring District 4, where they took dinner and relaxed, awaiting the show.
Among the crowds were many families with young children from further districts, the Voice of Vietnam reported.
Before the fireworks performance, multicolor drones created various images and messages in the sky, including the Party and national flags of Vietnam.
Starting sharply at 9:00 pm, the city's night sky was brilliantly lit up with high-altitude fireworks that went off at the end of the Saigon River Tunnel in Thu Duc, a satellite city of Ho Chi Minh City, along with low-altitude fireworks that flew up at the Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11.
Many viewers used their cellphones to capture the splendid images of the fireworks display that lasted for 15 minutes.
Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street also hosted a lively concert before and after the pyrotechnic display.
