​Vietnam’s new boy band to perform at Asian Television Awards

The Air, a boy band who made their debut last weekend in Vietnam, will perform at the Asian Television Awards (ATA) later this month.

They’ll perform their debut song, “Dung Hen Uoc” (“Don’t make promises”), at the beginning of the ATAs on November 30 and again during a live broadcast of the show the following day, according to a The Air’s communication manager.

All five The Air group members are expected to arrive in Singapore on November 29 to attend some sideline events, including a press conference with Singaporean media.

“This is a huge honor for us. Though we are a new group, we’ve still been receiving big support. We are trying our best to prepare for our appearance to an international audience,” The Air’s leader Lu An expressed.

Launched in 1996, the Asian Television Awards is one of the Asian TV industry’s most significant and celebrated events, recognizing excellence in programming, production and performance, according to the award’s organizers.

An expert panel of over 60 judges from across the region is charged with selecting winners in over 40 categories from a pool of over 1300 annual entrants across a range of broadcasters, including free-to-air television stations and pay-TV platforms, as well as independent production houses throughout Asia.

Other performances at this year’s ATAs include singers Afgan Syahreza from Indonesia and Joanna Dong from Singapore, South Korean TV star Kim Jong-Kook, and EDM artist  GG Magree from Australia.

Last year, the event saw the performance of famous British singer and songwriter Charli XCX.

Making their first public appearance in Ho Chi Minh City on November 12, The Air consisting of Vietnamese – Taiwanese Qlin, Vietnamese – Korean Kim Yi Sang, and Vietnamese Him, Lu An, and Eight.D.

The group was formed after a year-long selection and training process and is orientated as a collection of “versatile artists” able to acts, DJ, and more.

They are said working on a number of cinematic projects.

With more than 147,000 subscribers on Youtube, The Air is part of the coveted Silver Play Button from YouTube for channels that surpass 100,000 subscribers.

Before their official debut, the five members of The Air also starred in a television drama titled “Khi ta 16” (When we are 16) and released a music video of the film’s soundtrack “Chờ Yêu” (Waiting for love).

The MV has reached more than 1.7 million views on YouTube.
