Lao premier praises military ties with Vietnam

Effective cooperation between the Vietnamese and Lao armies has contributed to building a shared border of peace, stability and development, Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong has said. The Lao PM made the comment at his reception for visiting Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, in Vientiane on Thursday, according to the Vietnam News Agency. The host said that enhancing bilateral military cooperation is essential to deepening the special relationship between the two armies and countries. He also thanked the Vietnamese Party, State, people and army for their invaluable support for Lao in its past resistance wars against French and U.S. forces, as well as in peacetime. Laos will continue educating future generations about the huge support Vietnam has provided and promoting the special relationship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, PM Thammavong said. Meanwhile, Ty told the host about the outcomes of cooperation between the two countries’ defense ministries, as well as the orientations and plans to develop bilateral affiliation in the future. The Vietnamese and Lao defense ministries have closely cooperated in various fields, contributing to deepening the comprehensive relationship between the two nations.
