Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception on Thursday afternoon for Mongolia’s President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, who is on a state visit to Vietnam from Wednesday to Sunday.

PM Chinh attached great importance to the visit by the Mongolian president, his spouse, and a high-level Mongolian delegation, as the visit is made one year before the two nations mark the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Mongolian president congratulated the Vietnamese people on their achievements obtained over the past years.

The Mongolian government always attaches great importance to the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Mongolia, and considers Vietnam a leading partner of Mongolia in Southeast Asia, he said.

The two leaders discussed specific measures to strengthen cooperation between the two nations in all fields.

The Vietnamese government suggested both sides set a goal of doubling their bilateral trade to US$200 million in the years to come, bolster investment promotion events, and expand cooperation to diversify supply chains.

PM Chinh lauded both sides for launching direct air services and signing an agreement on bilateral visa exemption for ordinary passport holders.

The top Mongolian official expressed his hope to strengthen and expand cooperation with Vietnam.

Amid many global and regional uncertainties, both nations agreed to continue their close cooperation and mutual support at regional and international forums; share their joint vision through measures to ensure maritime and aviation security, safety, and freedom in the East Vietnam Sea; and maintain a peaceful, stable environment and legal order, while settling sea-related disputes by peaceful solutions in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
