Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue and his entourage left Hanoi on Sunday morning for an official visit to China from April 7 to 14 at the invitation of Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.
The visit is aimed at deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China, as well as the cooperation between their legislative bodies in particular, the Vietnam News Agency reported, citing deputy chairwoman of the NA Committee for External Relations Le Thu Ha.
Accompanying the top Vietnamese legislator are Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, NA Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Vietnam - China Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group; Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang; NA General Secretary and Chairman of the NA Office Bui Van Cuong; and Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai, among other officials.
The visit is important in maintaining high-level contacts, directing strategic orientations for bilateral relations as well as concretizing common perceptions between the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, stated Ambassador Mai.
It also aimed to concretize six major directions of cooperation between the two countries, especially promoting ‘higher political trust’ and consolidating ‘a stronger social foundation.’
These six directions were mentioned in the Vietnam-China joint statement during the state visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam in December last year.
In an interview with Vietnamese press in Hanoi on Friday, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hung Ba shared that the country looked forward to and highly valued the first visit by Hue to China.
This is the first visit of a key Vietnamese leader to China after the two countries announced the building of the Community of Shared Future, which was achieved during the aforementioned visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping.
During Hue’s visit, the first face-to-face communication between him and Zhao, the two sides are expected to deepen the exchange of experience in legislation, witness a new cooperation agreement between the two legislatures and build a new high-level dialogue mechanism between the two legislative bodies, Ambassador Ba said.
Like any bilateral relationship, the China-Vietnam relationship coexists with opportunities and challenges, the ambassador commented.
“I think the most outstanding feature of China-Vietnam relations is that opportunities far outweigh challenges, and through the efforts of both sides, some challenges can be effectively managed and transformed into opportunities for cooperation under certain conditions,” he said.
The biggest opportunity, Hung went on, is that both sides persistently implement the strategic direction of the two parties’ top leaders as well as the political guidance in the relationship between the two parties for the bilateral relationship.
The traditional friendship between China and Vietnam was personally built and painstakingly nurtured by generations of senior leaders of the two parties, including President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong, and is the most precious treasure of both sides, contributing to continuous cooperation between the two countries.
Last year, China was Vietnam's largest trading partner while Vietnam was China's 5th biggest commercial partner.
China steadfastly supports Vietnam in accelerating its industrialization and modernization process and is willing to actively participate in Vietnam’s economic transformation and upgrade, especially in energy transition.
