The administration in Ho Chi Minh City has issued a press release on the respect-paying and memorial ceremonies for General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong at the Reunification Hall on July 25 and 26.

Following a special announcement by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front regarding the organization of the state funeral for comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, the Ho Chi Minh City announces:

1. Time:

- Respect-paying ceremony: from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm on July 25, 2024 (Thursday) and from 7:00 am to 12:30 pm on July 26, 2024 (Friday)

- Memorial ceremony: at 1:00 pm on July 26, 2024 (Friday)

- Venue: Reunification Hall, 135 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1

2. Agencies, factories, schools, hospitals, and armed forces fly national flags at half-mast and tie them with black ribbons. All recreational and entertainment activities are suspended on July 25 and 26, 2024.

3. Residents and delegations of agencies, factories, schools, hospitals, and armed forces who pay tribute to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong must have delegation heads and wear formal, dark clothes. Students, workers, public servants, officials, and laborers wear their units’ uniforms.

Do not bring wreaths, fruits, incense sticks, and handbags but bring ID cards or personal papers and mourning bands. They should share vehicles to ease traffic pressure.

4. Delegations of the People’s Committees of cities and provinces in the south, central agencies and companies in Ho Chi Minh City, and associations of foreign businesses must make written registrations with or directly contact the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee before 8:00 pm on July 24 so that the organizers can arrange appropriate respect-paying schedules.

5. Planned respect-paying time for delegations:

* From 7:00 am to 8:30 am on July 25, 2024:

- Delegations of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ho Chi Minh City, former leaders of the Party and the state living in the city, and former leaders of Ho Chi Minh City

- Delegation of the Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam

- Delegation of the Office of the Government Office

- Delegation of the Office of the Commands of the Military Regions 5, 7, 9, and armed forces

- Delegation of National Assembly deputies and members of the People’s Council in Ho Chi Minh City

- Delegation of the Standing Board of the Ho Chi Minh People’s Committee 

- Delegation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ho Chi Minh City (representing intellectuals, veterans, workers, farmers, women, and overseas Vietnamese people in the city)

- Delegation of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in Ho Chi Minh City (representing young people, teenagers, and children in the city)

- Delegation of 28 diplomatic agencies

- Delegation of the Party organ of the High Command of Ho Chi Minh City

- Delegation of the Party organ of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security

- Delegation of the Party organ of the Border Guard Command in Ho Chi Minh City

* From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on July 25, 2024: Delegations of diplomatic agencies

* From 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm on July 25, 2024: 

- Delegations of the Inspection Commission and the Office of the municipal Party Committee, the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City delegation of National Assembly deputies, and the Office of the municipal People’s Committee.

- Delegations of Thu Duc City, districts, departments, and political and social organizations in the city
