Thailand governmental agencies, state-owned enterprises fly flags at half-mast in commemoration of Vietnam’s Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong

Prime Minister of Thailand Srettha Thavisin directed all governmental agencies and state-owned enterprises across the country to lower national flags to half-mast on August 1 and 2 to commemorate General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, the Vietnam News Agency cited the Thai Secretariat of the Cabinet.

Party General Secretary Trong passed away on July 19 in Hanoi at the age of 80.

Prime Minister Srettha, representatives of many Thai ministries and agencies, as well as dozens of delegations arrived at the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand to pay tribute to the late Party leader.

The prime minister wrote in the condolence book for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, “On behalf of the government and people of Thailand, I would like to send my deep condolences to the government and people of Vietnam over the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. 

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the government and people of Vietnam during this difficult time.”

Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong drew his last breath at 108 Military Central Hospital in Hanoi despite the efforts of leading doctors and healthcare experts to treat his age-related serious illness.

A state funeral was held for him on July 25 and July 26.
