A Vietnamese delegation headed by Major General Pham Manh Thang, chief of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, visited Germany from Sunday to Wednesday this week to enhance collaboration between the two countries in United Nations peacekeeping efforts.

The delegation visited the Bundeswehr United Nations Training Center, where they were briefed on the center’s organization, mission, and tasks, as well as observed several training scenarios from the UN Military Observer Course.

Bundeswehr is the name for the German armed forces.

Colonel Werner Klaffus, the center's commander, said that their military observer course was certified by the UN and other prestigious organizations, being considered a model for countries that deploy troops to UN peacekeeping missions.

After observing some of the training exercises, Major General Thang highlighted significant developments in peacekeeping cooperation between Vietnam and European countries, especially Germany.

The Vietnamese official expressed his hope for further cooperation, with a focus on the exchange of delegations, instructors, experts, and trainees for peacekeeping training courses organized by both sides.

The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations is gradually developing courses that meet UN standards and are officially recognized, with the aim of training personnel from Vietnam and partner nations.

Thang also suggested that Germany share information and experience with the department, especially in military observer training.

He affirmed the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations’ readiness to welcome German peacekeeping experts to collaborate with the department to expand and deepen cooperation.
