Police in the northern Bac Giang Province seized 140 cakes of heroin carried in a car and 80 drug pills from the car’s driver in Tan Yen District yesterday. At 10 am Thursday, a traffic police team stopped a Toyota Altis car that was running at top speed and found a suspicious carton that was sealed up with tape. The car’s driver immediately offered a bribe to the policemen but they rejected. The driver then ran away but failed, said Colonel Do Van Tuyen, head of the provincial Traffic Police Department. Searching his body, police found 80 synthetic drug tablets. Inside the carton, police found 140 cakes of heroin weighing about 49 kg, two flick knives, four mobile phones, one iPad, one tape-recorder, many jewelry items and VND85 million (US$4,100) in cash. The driver said he is Le Quang Dong, 42, a native of Thai Nguyen Province who is temporarily residing in Hoa Binh Province. Dong said he had been on the way to deliver the drugs to some traders. The police have detained Dong and are investigating to trace down the origin of the drugs.
