North, central region under parching heat

Saturday, April 20, 2013, 14:34 GMT+7

A spell of hot weather is forecast to affect the north and central region of Vietnam on Saturday, with temperature rising up to 38 degrees Celsius in some places. In the following days, the hot weather lessens thanks to a cold spell.

Though it is generally around 35-36 degrees Celsius today, the hot temperatures also rise high in some localities as Son La at 36.2 degrees Celsius, Thanh Hoa 36.6, Nghe An 37.7, and Quang Binh 36.3.

It is forecast that the spell of heat will today expand to the northwest and the north of central region, according to the Central Hydrometeological Center.

Starting in the afternoon of Friday, the wave of heat is the result of the spell of southwest wind and a low pressure in the west.

However, on April 21, a cold spell will brew up in the north to lessen the heat with showers. In the south, some places will have raining, and windy and cloudy weather.

On April 22, the highest temperature in the north is forecast to be around 30 degrees Celsius or lower. In Vinh City in the center, it will be 31 degrees at the highest on Monday.
