As previously reported, a broiling heat wave, with temperatures hitting up to 41 degrees Celsius, has been raging in many central provinces, with many people flocking to beaches to seek cool air while many others, mainly children, have fallen ill. The Hue Central Hospital reported that up to 350 children were examined and treated over the past several days, up 50 percent from the previous week. A similar situation has been seen in Quang Nam Province, where more than 500 children were hospitalized at the provincial Pediatrics Hospital from May 13-15. The heat wave is likely to last until early next week, said Le Thanh Hai, deputy director of the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Center.
