Men held for snatching bag from foreigner

Police in Ho Chi Minh City have arrested two young men for snatching a bag from a Singaporean national in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday.

>> Two seized for snatching phone from foreigner on street Phan Van Tho, 24, of District 10, and Nguyen Van Minh, 19, of District 8, were seized yesterday by a patrol team from the city’s anti-social crime police department, which later handed the criminals over to the police of Ward 12,  District 5 for handling. The victim was Mr. Lim Lian Ui, a tourist of Singaporean nationality. According to the case file, at 1 pm on May 28, patrol officers noticed Tho and Minh were travelling on a motorbike in District 5 in a suspicious manner. The officers followed them, and when they reached the intersection of Ly Thuong Kiet and Hung Vuong Streets, they approached Mr. Lim, snatched a handbag from him, and sped away. The officers chased after the thieves through several streets and finally seized them. Before being arrested, they took all of the assets out of the bag and threw the empty bag to the ground. The police later returned an iPad, an iPhone 5 and VND1 million (US$48) in cash to the Singaporean man. A similar case occurred in HCMC on March 27 when police detained  two young men for snatching a mobile phone from a Chinese national who was taking photos on a street in District 10. The arrested thieves were Phan Ngoc Bao, 26, and Tran Thanh Toan, 24, both from District 10, who stole an HTC G10 mobile phone from Liang Yong Cong, a 40-year-old Chinese man.
