-- During his four-day visit to the Czech Republic, Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang on Tuesday visited Moser Glas, the republic’s famous glass and crystal producer based in Karlovy Vary Province. President Sang suggested the provincial authorities consider cooperation with Vietnamese provinces and cities in launching a crystal plant in the Southeast Asian country. -- Around 4:00 pm on Tuesday, a crane at the construction site of the Nhon-Hanoi Station Urban Railway project gave way, tumbling onto and damaging two houses on Cau Giay Street. The accident injured two people, including a pregnant woman. A crane at the same project also collapsed three days earlier.

-- The head of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on Tuesday imposed a six-month flight ban on a 35-year-old Hanoi woman for slapping the face of an employee of VietJet Air, a low-cost carrier, when she was about to board a domestic flight at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City early last month. The woman was fined for that act after that. On April 7, the VietJet Air employee, who realized that the total weight of the woman’s luggage might have exceeded the 7kg cap, asked her to weigh it again at a point near the boarding gate. His request met with the woman’s frustration.

-- On Tuesday, Vietnamese confectionery maker Kinh Do Corp and Taiwanese-owned Saigon Ve Wong inked a joint-venture agreement to produce instant noodles, cooking oil and spices. They also announced the construction of the US$30-million Bac Ninh VSIP Industrial Park, located in the northern province of Bac Ninh.   -- According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Hanoi has released a diplomatic note, saying that a number of agro-produce and medicine shipments from Vietnam have failed to meet the country’s quality standards.

-- The People’s Committee of Kien Giang Province in the Mekong Delta announced on Tuesday that the provincial authorities have just approved the building of a passenger ship from the province’s Ha Tien Town to Tien Hai Island, also known as Hai Tac (Pirates) Archipelago. The building is expected to cost over VND24 billion (US$1.12 million) and will be complete next year.
