An airport in a north-central Vietnamese province has been fined for locking its doors to allow staff members the space to play badminton inside the terminal earlier this month, causing disruption to its service.
Managers of Dong Hoi Airport in Quang Binh Province organized a badminton competition for their young staff members in the area along its check-in counters between 7:55 am and 9:00 am on March 19, according to Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Authority.
With the terminal being closed, passengers arriving on a 9:00 am flight were forced to exit the aerodrome through a restricted area.
Additionally, departing passengers who arrived at the counters prior to 10:00 am to check-in for a 12:00 pm flight found the airport lobby unmanned and devoid of services.
The airport was fined VND35 million (US$1,535) for ceasing operation without official clearance from relevant authorities.
Its director was reprimanded for his mismanagement.
