The developer and residents of an apartment complex in Ho Chi Minh City organized a grand prayer service on Monday for those losing lives in a conflagration that damaged the residential area nearly one year ago.

Hung Thanh Construction, Trade, Service and Production Company Limited joined hands with the dwellers at the Carina Plaza apartments in District 8 in holding the great service to pray for the 13 people killed in the fire.

The service lasted from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm at Carina Plaza and was carried out by monks from Phuoc Long Co Tu, located in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, according to Tran Quang Hai, director of Hung Thanh, which developed the apartment complex.

The grand praying ceremony was not only dedicated to the dead but also to praying for peace and safety for those living here.

In the early hours of March 23, 2018, a fire broke out from the basement of the apartment complex, killing 13 people and injuring many others.

This was the most disastrous fire that had happened in Ho Chi Minh City in more than a decade.

In April 2018, police arrested Nguyen Van Tung, the 41-year-old former director of Hung Thanh, on charges of “breaching regulations on firefighting,” which led to the fatal consequences.
