The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications on Monday launched the country’s national data portal to address the demands of both the people and the business community.

The national data portal, available at data.gov.vn, was developed under the prime minister's guidelines with a view to building a digital platform that helps governmental agencies manage, connect, and share data with the public.

After being put into operation, the data portal will facilitate access to official documents, services, tools, apps, and data analysis provided by state agencies.

The portal is designed to be a shared data platform among administrative agencies where they can publish, update, and review their database to improve data transparency, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.

The launch of the national data portal is a part of efforts toward developing stable infrastructure for Vietnam’s digital government.

The portal will also gradually offer public digital services where citizens and the business community can access their data held by state agencies, among other useful digital services.

On top of that, the portal will operate as a hub of open data sources supplied by governmental authorities which users can access for various purposes including research, study, and product invention.

“Providing open data is also a part of the government’s intention to facilitate growth and improve transparency in state agencies' operations,” a Ministry of Information and Communications press release reads.

In the early stage after the portal’s launch, the ministry will build and launch some basic subsystems including one for publishing existing data from governmental agencies and another providing open data sources.

Apart from those subsystems, the portal will also be integrated with other platforms such as the digital map VMap and the postal code platform Vpostcode to meet users’ demands.

Besides the master site of the national data portal, users can also access open.data.gov.vn for open data sources.
