The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport announced a detailed plan of rerouting traffic on several streets in District 1 ahead and during the upcoming 2021 Lunar New Year, or Tet, celebrations.
The adjustment will be effective from January 25 to February 16 for preparation of a book street and a flower street.
Accordingly, all vehicles will be banned from taking the U-turn on Nguyen Hue Street near Ton Duc Thang Street from 7:00 am January 25 through February 9.
The alternative route is: Nguyen Hue Street → Ton Duc Thang Street → Vo Van Kiet Street → the underpass below Khanh Hoi Bridge → Ton Duc Thang Street → Me Linh Roundabout → Ton Duc Thang Street → Nguyen Hue Street.
From 7:00 am February 2 to 8, the section of Nguyen Hue Street from Ton Duc Thang Street to Nguyen Thiep Street, the sections of Ngo Duc Ke Street and Mac Thi Buoi Street from Dong Khoi Street to Nguyen Hue Street will be closed to traffic.
People can take the following routes as replacements:
Route 1: Ton Duc Thang Street → Me Linh Roundabout → Hai Ba Trung Street → Le Thanh Ton Street → Dong Khoi Street → Nguyen Thiep Street → Nguyen Hue Street.
Route 2: Ton Duc Thang Street → Ham Nghi Street → Le Loi Street → Pasteur Street → Le Thanh Ton Street.
From 4:00 pm February 9 through February 16, all vehicles will be prohibited on the section of Nguyen Hue Street from Ton Duc Thang Street to Nguyen Thiep Street, the section of Mac Thi Buoi Street from Dong Khoi Street to Nguyen Hue Street, and the section of Ngo Duc Ke Street from Ho Tung Mau Street to Dong Khoi Street.
During that period of time, all vehicles will also be restricted on the sections of Nguyen Thiep Street and Le Loi Street from Dong Khoi Street to Nguyen Hue Street, and the sections of Hai Trieu Street, Ngo Duc Ke Street, Huynh Thuc Khang Street, Ton That Thiep Street and Le Loi Street from Ho Tung Mau and Pasteur Streets to Nguyen Hue Street.
People can follow the below routes instead:
Route 1: Nguyen Hue Street → Ton Duc Thang Street → the underpass below Khanh Hoi Bridge → Ton Duc Thang Street → Me Linh Roundabout → Hai Ba Trung Street → Le Thanh Ton Street.
Route 2: Ton Duc Thang Street → Ham Nghi Street → Pasteur Street → Le Thanh Ton Street.
Vehicles of locals living on the aforementioned streets subject to the traffic prohibition or restriction will be allowed and instructed by traffic regulators.
Other vehicles traveling to the above streets are required to comply with the instructions of the traffic police, the traffic regulating force or according to the traffic sign system.
The 2021 Lunar New Year will fall on February 12, with people to celebrate the traditional festival several days before and after.
