COVID-19 Updates

-- Vietnam recorded three local cases of COVID-19 in Hanoi and northern Hung Yen Province and one imported infection on Friday morning, raising the national tally to 2,914 patients with 2,516 recoveries and 35 virus-related deaths.

-- All karaoke parlors, bars, and discotheques in Hanoi have suspended operations from 0:00 on Friday in the city’s latest COVID-19 response.

-- The Vietnamese government on Thursday ordered preparations for the scenario of 30,000 COVID-19 infections in the country as local travel demand is set to increase during the four-day public holiday from Friday to May 2 to celebrate Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1).

-- The Ministry of Health on Thursday night issued an urgent notification to find passengers on flight VJ133 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City at 10:15 am on April 27, which COVID-19 patient No. 2,910 had boarded.


-- The long-delayed, Chinese-funded Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway line in Hanoi was on Thursday granted a system safety certificate that is required for its operation.

-- Serious traffic congestion happened in the area of Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City and the Rach Mieu Bridge connecting the Mekong Delta provinces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre on Thursday evening as people returned to their hometowns and traveled to other localities to enjoy a four-day public holiday.

-- A source told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Thursday that the aviation security forces and police stationed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City found a passenger carrying six unused military bullets in his carry-on luggage at around 2:30 pm on April 27.

-- The Hanoi People’s Court on Thursday sentenced former Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang to 11 years in prison for “violating regulations on the management and use of state assets, causing losses and wastefulness.”

-- Police in Hoi An City, located in central Quang Nam Province, said on Thursday that they had found a woman growing 17 cannabis plants in her garden to use them as medicine to treat insomnia on Wednesday.


-- Vietnam are scheduled to compete against Indonesia on June 7, Malaysia on June 11, and the UAE on June 15 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the UAE, according to the Vietnam Football Federation’s announcement on Thursday.
