COVID-19 Updates

-- Vietnam on Saturday morning reported 3,794 new cases of COVID-19, including 1,836 cases in Ho Chi Minh City, increasing the country's tally to 197,175, including 62,332 recoveries and 3,016 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.

-- Ninh Thuan Province in south-central Vietnam continues applying social distancing measures under the municipal People's Committee's directive No.16 on Saturday for seven days as the pandemic situation is still very complicated, according to the provincial People's Committee.

-- Three additional rehabilitation centers have been set up in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday, focusing on treating patients with mild and moderate symptoms.

-- Can Tho Province began the fifth phase of its COVID-19 vaccination program on Friday with a target of administering doses to 170,370 residents above 18 years old.

-- Medical authorities in Hanoi urgently collected samples from 5,000 residents in Van Chuong Ward and Tho Quang Ward for COVID-19 testing on Friday, following the detection of an infection cluster at Thanh Nga Food Co. Ltd.

-- Medical staff at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on Friday successfully delivered the sixth baby born to coronavirus patients in Vietnam.

-- The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has decided to spend VND50 billion (US$2 million) providing necessities for workers who have been affected by COVID-19 in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong Province, and Dong Nai Province.

-- Nine Bach Hoa Xanh stores, a well-known grocery system, have been fined for selling goods without price tags and many products beyond their use-by dates in the southern Binh Phuoc Province.

-- Authorities in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh on Friday have slapped a local man with a total fine of VND5 million ($217) for sharing fake news regarding the local COVID-19 situation on social media.

-- North Korea continued developing its nuclear and ballistic missile programs during the first half of 2021 in violation of international sanctions and despite the country's worsening economic situation, according to an excerpt of a confidential United Nations report seen by Reuters on Friday.
