The Ministry of Health logged 14,112 more coronavirus infections in Vietnam on Sunday, alongside 6,802 recoveries and 63 virus-related mortalities.

The newest cases, including seven imported and 14,105 domestic transmissions, were detected in 56 provinces and cities, the health ministry said, noting that 8,595 caught the virus in the community.

Hanoi recorded 2,797 of the latest local cases, Da Nang 927, Quang Nam Province 853, Nam Dinh Province 593, Hai Duong Province 566, Hoa Binh Province 523, Hai Phong City 523, Bac Ninh Province 460, Binh Dinh Province 425, Thanh Hoa Province 300, Lam Dong Province 228, Thua Thien-Hue Province 148, Son La Province 132, Quang Ninh Province 94, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 92, Khanh Hoa Province 59, Ho Chi Minh City 43, Binh Thuan Province 27, and Can Tho City nine.  

Vietnam had reported 12,160 locally-transmitted infections on Saturday.

The country has confirmed 2,334,867 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Above 2.1 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City is heavily affected with 514,457 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 292,747, Hanoi with 148,210, Dong Nai Province with 99,952, Tay Ninh Province with 88,520, Ca Mau Province 56,431, Dong Thap Province with 47,462, Binh Phuoc Province 47,002, Can Tho City with 44,413, Vinh Long Province 44,213, Long An Province with 41,724, Da Nang with 37,316, An Giang Province with 35,570, Tien Giang Province with 35,355, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 31,080, and Binh Thuan Province with 29,463.

Vietnam found only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry declared 6,802 patients recovered on Sunday, lifting the national count to 2,112,715.

The toll has risen to 38,324, with 63 virus-linked deaths announced today. 

Vietnam has registered 2,341,971 patients in total, including 192 imported and community-based Omicron infections, since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

The Omicron cases consist of 92 in Ho Chi Minh City, 27 in Quang Nam Province, 20 in Quang Ninh Province, 14 in Hanoi, 11 in Khanh Hoa Province, eight in Da Nang, six in Hung Yen Province, four in Kien Giang Province, two in Thanh Hoa Province, two in Hai Duong Province, one in Hai Phong City, one in Long An Province, one in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, one in Binh Duong Province, one in Lam Dong Province, and one in Ninh Binh Province.

Healthcare workers have administered over 182 million vaccine doses, including 77,428 shots on Saturday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Above 79 million of the country’s 98 million people have received at least one dose while upwards of 74.2 million have been jabbed twice.

The number of third doses – including additional primary shots for immunocompromised people, boosters, and third jabs of Cuba’s Abdala vaccine has amounted to 28,843,887.
