The Ministry of Health added 78,795 more COVID-19 patients to Vietnam’s caseload on Friday, along with 15,835 hospital discharges and 78 virus-linked fatalities.

The newest cases, including 21 imported and 78,774 domestic transmissions, were confirmed in all 63 provinces and cities, the health ministry said, clarifying that 54,345 contracted the virus in the community.

Hanoi recorded 9,836 of the latest local cases, Quang Ninh Province 4,615, Bac Giang Province 3,563, Tuyen Quang Province 2,797, Phu Tho Province 2,696, Nam Dinh Province 2,581, Hai Duong Province 2,441, Nghe An Province 2,424, Hung Yen Province 2,403, Hoa Binh Province 2,385, Vinh Phuc Province 2,367, Ho Chi Minh City 2,206, Bac Ninh Province 2,139, Hai Phong City 1,919, Khanh Hoa Province 1,631, Quang Nam Province 1,328, Da Nang 957, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 846, Lam Dong Province 785, Binh Duong Province 339, Thua Thien-Hue Province 200, Dong Nai Province 109, and Can Tho City 74.

Vietnam had registered 69,119 locally-transmitted infections on Thursday.

The country has detected 3,112,985 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Over 2.35 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City tops the caseload with 528,265 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 295,560, Hanoi with 237,002, Dong Nai Province with 100,923, Tay Ninh Province with 89,723, Bac Ninh Province 70,007, Hai Phong City 61,093, Ca Mau Province 60,312, Binh Phuoc Province 54,068, Da Nang with 53,547, Dong Thap Province with 47,945, Vinh Long Province 45,330, Can Tho City with 44,909, Long An Province with 42,163, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 36,917, An Giang Province with 35,839, Tien Giang Province with 35,465, and Binh Thuan Province with 31,561.

Vietnam reported only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

Hospitals discharged 15,835 patients on Friday, bringing the national count to 2,355,619.

The toll has soared to 39,962, with 78 pathogen-related mortalities added today. 

Vietnam has documented 3,120,301 patients in total, including 205 imported and community-based Omicron infections, since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered upwards of 192.8 million vaccine doses, including 187,683 shots on Thursday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

More than 176 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 70,849,206 first shots, 67,187,585 second doses, 13,628,967 additional primary jabs, and 23,003,481 boosters.    

A total of 16,755,141 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,620,184 first doses and 8,134,957 second jabs.
