Google has cooperated with the National Cyber Security Center of Vietnam (NCSC) to launch a website aimed at raising public awareness of increasing online frauds and helping them cope with these problems.
The website, Dauhieuluadao.com, provides typical fraud situations and helps people recognize popular fraud methods in Vietnam and around the world, according to a joint press release by Google and NCSC on Friday.
It also offers three 'golden rules' for everybody to apply to dealing with potential cyber scams.
The site banks on Scamspotter.org, a joint project between Google and the U.S. Cybercrime Support Network.
The website has been integrated by NCSC into the National Cyberspace Portal at https://congcu.khonggianmang.vn/dauhieuluadao/ for easy use and look-up when needed.
In Vietnam, online fraud has become complicated with increasing losses in the past few years, from scratch cards, bank account transfer to huge online investment scams.
Online swindles have increased remarkably along with COVID-19 outbreaks that began to hit Vietnam in early 2020, said NCSC.
“In 2021 only, more than 1,000 websites that committed fraudulent acts by posing themselves as banks or financial institutions were prevented and handled,” the agency said.
“Every day, there are five to ten more websites that cheat Vietnamese users,” the IB Group Vietnam announced at the Vietnam Security Summit 2021.
“I am very pleased to continue working with NCSC to launch Dauhieuluadao.com to help raise awareness about online fraud among Vietnamese people, in the context that digital fraud has been increasingly diverse and complicated," said Lien Nguyen, who is in charge of government relations and public policies in Vietnam.
Information security for users is always in the top priority of Google, Lien added.
The network environment is an effective means for users in today’s digital age, but it also exposes users to potential fraud risks, so NCSC has developed various programs, including Dauhieuluadao.com, to provide maximum protection for them in cyberspace, said Nguyen Xuan Quang, deputy director of NCSC.
He believed that the new website will help prevent phishing attacks to the maximum and build trust for users of online services.
