Vietnam reports 102,046 new COVID-19 infections, 37 deaths

The Ministry of Health confirmed 102,046 COVID-19 patients in Vietnam on Sunday, alongside 74,608 recoveries and 37 virus-related fatalities.

The newest cases, including only domestic transmissions, were found in 61 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily report.

Bac Giang and Thai Binh Provinces recorded 55,544 of the latest local cases, including 51,316 added from previous days; Hanoi 6,304; Yen Bai Province 2,604; Nghe An Province 2,599; Quang Ninh Province 2,522; Phu Tho Province 2,435; Tuyen Quang Province 1,420; Bac Kan Province 1,112; Binh Dinh Province 929; Lam Dong Province 768; Bac Ninh Province 735; Binh Duong Province 589; Thua Thien-Hue Province 555; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 454; Da Nang 419; Ho Chi Minh City 347; and Can Tho City 46.

The health ministry registered 65,619 infections on Saturday.

Vietnam has detected 9,810,591 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Almost 7.8 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi is still the biggest epicenter with 1,496,445 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 596,403, Nghe An Province 400,607, Binh Duong Province with 378,885, Hai Duong Province 347,115, Bac Ninh Province 328,793, Ca Mau Province 144,711, Tay Ninh Province with 130,920, Hai Phong City 116,866, Binh Phuoc Province 112,326, Dong Nai Province with 106,195, Da Nang with 95,641, and Can Tho City with 49,105.

Vietnam detected only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry logged 74,608 recovered patients on Sunday, elevating the national count to 7,787,962.

The toll has mounted to 42,600, with 37 pathogen-associated mortalities added today. 

Vietnam has documented 9,818,328 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered over 206.5 million vaccine doses, including 64,201 shots on Saturday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Above 189.3 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,245,211 first shots, 68,062,100 second doses, 14,938,955 additional primary jabs, and 33,577,959 boosters.    

A combined 17,191,595 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,809,345 first doses and 8,382,250 second jabs.
