Police in Vietnam have said that after accepting a babysitting gig for a one-year-old child, Doan Dieu Linh and her husband could not stand the baby acting up so they used charging cables to tie the baby’s legs, used wooden sticks and a plastic hammer to hit the child on the head and body, and also utilized tape to restrain the baby.

The police department in Hanoi on July 30 stated that appropriate authorities were investigating the abuse in Phuong Lien Ward, Dong Ba District.

Before that, the police department in Lang Thuong Ward, Dong Da District received a report from the Vietnam National Children's Hospital on July 28 about a child in a critical condition after being allegedly abused.

Through investigation, police officers confirmed on July 21 that Le Thi Lan H., 28, from north-central Ha Tinh Province, mother of the child, hired Doan Dieu Linh, a 26-year-old from Hanoi, to take care of T. with the pay rate of VND3 million (US$128) per month at 198 Alley, Phuong Lien Commune, Dong Da District so she could go to work in Bac Giang Province, about 60km from the Vietnamese capital.

The child then caught a fever and started acting up so Linh and her 28-year-old husband Hoang The Vu, living in Hanoi, used charging cables to tie the baby’s legs, used wooden sticks and a plastic hammer to hit the child on the head and body, and utilized tape to restrain the baby.

Vu and Linh brought the child to the Vietnam National Children's Hospital after seeing the baby struggling to breathe on July 26.

The case is currently under investigation by appropriate authorities.
