-- Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception in Hanoi on Monday for Lao Prosecutor General Xayxana Khotphouthone, who is in Vietnam for the seventh conference between the People's Procuracies of the provinces sharing the Vietnam - Laos border, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

COVID-19 Updates

-- The Ministry of Health documented 2,197 COVID-19 cases on Monday, raising the national tally to 11,386,016, with 10,080,681 recoveries and 43,106 mortalities.

Society

-- Tropical Storm Ma-on was located east of the Philippines early on Tuesday morning and is expected to enter the East Vietnam Sea around Wednesday, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

-- Three students aged 11-15 drowned while having a swim at a water pit in an urban area construction project in northern Vinh Phuc Province on Monday afternoon. The fourth victim is being treated at the hospital.

-- Police in northern Ha Nam Province are investigating the case where a 55-year-old man fatally shot himself with a homemade gun while visiting his mother-in-law at a local hospital on Monday.

-- The developer of an illegal 12-story hotel construction on Phu Quoc Island off southern Kien Giang Province has been fined VND61.5 million (US$2,600) and required to dismantle the building.

-- The Ministry of Health has required all arrivals from countries where monkeypox is circulating to monitor their health for 21 days upon entering Vietnam. They must come to the nearest medical facility if they show any symptoms of the disease.

-- The Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment is expected to pilot the measurement of motorcycle emissions in 2024 in a plan to control emissions from such vehicles in the capital city.
