Vietnam’s outbound tours are booming as droves of Vietnamese are seeking to travel overseas, according to local travel companies.

Nguyen Minh Man, head of communications and marketing at TST Tourist Company, said the company’s outbound segment has recovered by over 90 percent after five months.

Markets reporting strong growth include Thailand, Singapore, Europe, and the U.S..

South Korea and Japan are the most popular destinations for Vietnamese tourists.

“The surge in the number of tourist delegations traveling at home and abroad shows a brightening picture [of the tourism sector] in the rest of 2022 and in 2023, arousing an expectation for enormous growth by the end of next year and the full recovery from 2024,” Man added.

According to Nguyen Nguyet Van Khanh, director of marketing at Vietravel, the revenue from outbound tours has surged over the past few months.

In September alone, the company’s revenue from outbound tours made up half of its total revenue.

“Tourism business activities are developing positively. Tourists tend to book tours early before departure, which helps bring in considerable revenue and ease enterprises’ cost burden,” Khanh said.

Keith Tan, CEO of the Singapore Tourism Board, informed that Vietnam ranks fifth among the key source markets for Singapore’s tourism since it reopened its door to international tourists after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Before the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically in 2019, we welcomed some 60,000 Vietnamese travelers. As of August this year, more than 124,000 Vietnamese tourists had visited Singapore, which is strong growth," Tan said.

“The fifth position is the highest position of Vietnam in terms of tourists visiting Singapore. We consider Vietnam a potential market.”

Meanwhile, Ratiwan Boonprakhong, chief representative of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in Vietnam, said that Vietnam was among the five countries with the largest number of tourists coming to Thailand with 324,000 arrivals in the January-October period of this year.

It followed Malaysia, India, Indonesia, and Laos.

“We continuously organize famtrips for key opinion leaders, and travel and communications companies to provide the newest images of Thailand after the pandemic to the Vietnamese market,” Ratiwan noted.
