Hundreds of Vietnamese anti-terrorism mobile police officers practiced weaponry, martial arts, and other skills on Tuesday.
Despite the eight-degree Celsius weather on Tuesday morning, the officers that participated in the training woke up at 4:00 am to prepare themselves for anti-terrorism exercises in Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province, home of the National Training Center for Counter-Terrorism.
Beginning the day with a chant of 'Be strong to build and defend the Fatherland,' which echoed through the foggy sky, the officers spent the morning practicing martial arts at the center, which is operated by the Ministry of Public Security’s High Command of Mobile Police.

At 11:30 am, as temperatures crept up to 30 degrees Celsius, the young policemen finally took a break for lunch.
The afternoon was spent practicing camouflage skills in a nearby forest.
During these exercises, the officers covered themselves with grass, leaves, tree branches, soil, and mud as they lay motionless in order to avoid detection.

Upon an 'attack' order from their commander, they sprang into action and attacked their 'enemies.'
“Camouflage helps police officers hide from enemies in different terrains so that they can scout, probe, or attack,” said Major Hoang Dinh Cong, a trainer at the center.
The training of camouflaged soldiers is an elaborate, difficult, and arduous process, but all the trainees try their best to overcome challenges each session, Major Cong commented.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, Tran Manh Luan, a first-class private, said he was once bitten by ants in close contact with centipedes and snakes while lying motionless during the camouflage training.
“I overcame those challenges and now understand that camouflage is essential,” Luan said.
At 6:00 pm, the trainees took a second break for dinner and a rest before beginning their night training.
'The more sweat is produced in training, the less blood is shed in battle' is the motto of both trainers and trainees at the center.
