-- Positive outcomes in the Vietnam-U.S. relations will create a foundation for the two countries to elevate their ties to a new height, for the sake of their people, and for peace, stability and development in the region and the world as a whole, Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong told U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Hanoi on Saturday. Blinken arrived in the Vietnamese capital city on Friday evening for his first official visit to Vietnam in office.
-- Chairman of Vietnam's lawmaking National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue will pay official visits to Cuba, Argentina, and Uruguay from April 18 to 28, the Vietnam News Agency cited the NA Committee for Foreign Affairs as saying.

-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Saturday required the construction of Ho Chi Minh City’s first metro line to be completed by September 2 this year, four months ahead of schedule.
-- Stadler Rail, a Swiss manufacturer of railway rolling stock, has shown its interest in supporting Vietnam in restoring the Thap Cham-Da Lat railway, which runs from south-central Ninh Thuan Province to the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, by providing new cogwheels and carriages, the People’s Committee of Lam Dong said on Saturday.
-- The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has required departments, agencies, Thu Duc City, and districts to enhance the fight against COVID-19 amid an increase in infections in Vietnam since early this month.
-- Ho Chi Minh City experienced a torrential downpour on Saturday evening. This was the heaviest rain in the city since early this year following scorching days.

-- The Southern Folk Cake Festival 2023 will be organized in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho from April 28 to May 2. The 10th edition of the festival will feature nearly 300 booths introducing folk cakes from 22 localities in Vietnam and is expected to attract one million visitors.
-- Two pig-tailed macaques were caught and transported to the Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station in the namesake district of Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday after they were on the loose in the city’s Nha Be District and one of them injured a young girl.
