Residents and enterprises in Hue City of the central Vietnamese province of Thua Thien-Hue now provide 350 free public toilets for travelers in an effort to develop the city’s tourism.
The result was achieved a month after city authorities called on local businesses and households to join hands to establish a system of free restrooms for tourists, Phan Thien Dinh, secretary of the Hue Party Committee, said on Sunday.
The locations of these public restrooms are featured in the Hue-S app and on the website https://khamphahue.com.vn.
Tourists just need to access the app or the website to search for free public toilets near them.
The public toilets are marked with a 'WC Free Use for Tourist' [sic] signboard.
Dinh said the toilets was meant to better serve athletes and tourists participating in the VnExpress Marathon Imperial Hue 2023, held on Sunday, as well as those coming to Hue in the future.
Earlier, Dinh used his own Facebook account to call on his friends and residents in Hue City to support the campaign.
The solution helps Hue develop a friendly, hospitable, and safe tourism environment.
Thua Thien-Hue welcomed around 633,300 tourist arrivals in the first quarter of this year, double the figure over the same period last year.
Of the total were 255,900 foreign visitors, a 55-fold surge year on year.
The province generated VND1.4 trillion (US$59.8 million) in tourism revenue in the quarter, rising 2.9 times over the first quarter of last year, according to the provincial Department of Tourism.
It set targets to serve 3-3.5 million tourists this year, with domestic travelers accounting for 70-80 percent, and earn tourism revenue of VND6-7 trillion ($256-299 million).
