A police officer lost control of a traffic police pickup truck, causing it to crash into multiple motorbikes and a truck along the roadside in Lai Chau Province, northern Vietnam on Monday afternoon.
The traffic police car suddenly drove into the opposite lane when it came around a bend in Tam Duong District at around 2:00 pm, a source told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
It also knocked down a road milestone, plowed through several motorbikes parked along the roadside, and crashed into a truck.
The traffic police department of Lai Chau confirmed the crash later the same day, saying that a police officer of Than Uyen District was driving the pickup truck in question.
The slippery road surface caused by rain was determined as the cause of the accident, the department said, adding that nobody was harmed, including the traffic police officer, as the affected vehicles’ owners were not at the site at that time, but a truck and four motorbikes were damaged.
“The traffic police department arrived at the scene immediately after the accident,” said a leader of the department.
“We checked the alcohol concentration of the driver and the result showed that he had a blood alcohol concentration of zero."
