State utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has said it will basically ensure sufficient electricity supply to the northern region of Vietnam from Friday amid alternate power outages.
The water levels of hydropower reservoirs in the region have increased, while problems at some thermal power plants have been fixed, resulting in an improvement to the electricity supply, according to EVN.
However, the northern region’s power supply system has no backup capacity, so power outages may still happen in the future.
Directions of the prime minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises as well as the support of localities and relevant units have helped improve the power supply in the northern region, EVN said.
The group also thanked its customers for sharing and understanding and apologized to them for alternate power cuts over the past few months.
EVN also called on its customers to continue using electricity sparingly, safely, and effectively in the coming time.
The power supply system’s peak capacity reached some 41,500 megawatts on Wednesday, according to the National Load Dispatch Centre.
A report by the Ministry of Industry and Trade showed that the northern region has entered the rainy season, but the rise of the water level of reservoirs remains slow.
The north of Vietnam has suffered repeated power outages over the past few months.
The blackouts have caused multiple difficulties for residents and enterprises there.
