Multiple provinces and cities in southern Vietnam are forecast to experience heavy rains between Monday and Tuesday, according to the southern weather center.

The southern hydro-meteorological station said on Sunday afternoon that scattered rainstorms and thunderstorms had hit the southern region over the past 24 hours.

Rainfall measuring from 7:00 pm on Saturday to 7:00 pm on Sunday ranged between 39mm and 51mm in such southern provinces as Long An, An Giang, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, and Binh Duong.

The southern weather center forecast that the region is likely to see medium to heavy rains over the next 24-48 hours, with precipitation expected to reach 20-70mm, adding that low-lying and riverside areas may be inundated.

Also, thunderstorms are most likely in the afternoon and evening.

Local residents should take shelter from heavy downpours, which could uproot trees and blow off roofs.

The weather center attributed the rains to an active low-pressure system and the southwest monsoon.
