The administration in Ho Chi Minh City has installed iron barriers under city bridges to prevent dumping and encroachment.

The installation of the iron barriers will not affect commuters.

Prior to the installation of these barriers, residents and businesses had been encroaching on spaces under bridges.

In some areas, these spaces were used as landfills and burn pits.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport had earlier tasked the Ho Chi Minh City Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center and the Ho Chi Minh City Management Center of Public Transport with reviewing the use of spaces under bridges and drawing up a plan to restore the spaces by erecting barriers and constructing concrete flooring.

The department had also asked the two centers to enhance inspections and coordination with the People’s Committees of districts and Thu Duc City to handle anyone caught vandalizing the barriers and encroaching on the spaces.
