The People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province in southern Vietnam on Friday imposed a fine of more than VND1.1 billion (US$45,980) on Hongfei Glass Co. Ltd., a Chinese-invested light bulb manufacturer, for illegally discharging wastewater into the environment.
In addition to the penalty, the company received an additional three-month suspension of activities that generated sources of pollution.
The Dong Nai People’s Committee mandated that the company immediately halt the discharge of wastewater into the environment and swiftly implement measures to mitigate pollution.
The company was also required to submit a progress report by October 31.
Previously, the Song May Industrial Park Development JSC, which is the investor of the Song May Industrial Park in Vinh Cuu District, where Hongfei Glass Co. Ltd. is located, reported that the firm had not properly separated rainwater and wastewater collection systems, and had been discharging wastewater in excess of the industrial park’s permitted limits on hazardous fluoride by five times.
Starting on July 6, the Song May Industrial Park Development JSC ceased accepting wastewater from Hongfei and closed the wastewater connection point after the company had repeated the violation.
Hongfei Glass Co. Ltd. is engaged in the manufacturing and processing of electric light bulbs with an annual production capacity of 5,000 products and glass and tempered glass products with an annual production capacity of 5,000 metric tons.
The company obtained its business operation certificate in 2021 and received an environmental safety license in 2022.
