Security officers at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City caught a man for allegedly stealing a wallet at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi after he landed at the southern airport on Saturday.
Hoang Tien Ph., 42-year-old resident of Quang Binh Province, north-central Vietnam, who was scheduled to fly from Hanoi to Quang Binh at 6:00 pm on Saturday, reported the loss of his wallet with over VND4 million (US$164) in cash and some ATM cards inside after going through the security scanning area to security personnel at the Hanoi-based airport at 5:30 pm the same day.
He said that he inadvertently left his wallet in the area.
The security force quickly checked surveillance camera footage, and detected a man who had taken it and went to Gate 6 to board a Vietjet aircraft heading to the Ho Chi Minh City-based airport.
After being notified of the case, the Tan Son Nhat Aviation Security Center deployed forces to the domestic terminal to catch the man after his arrival.
The man was identified as Nham Van D., a 44-year-old resident of Ha Dong District, Hanoi.
He confessed to the security officers that he picked up a black wallet at Noi Bai International Airport.
The force found the wallet containing VND4.541 million ($186.3) and $3 in cash, as well as three ATM cards.
After booking D., Tan Son Nhat International Airport security personnel handed him over to the Southern Airports Authority for further punishment.
Many passengers have recently been detected stealing others’ assets at security screening areas at local airports, mainly Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat.
