Ho Chi Minh City expects to resume work on the Ho Chi Minh City Planning Exhibition Center in Thu Duc City in the first quarter of next year and complete it within seven months if it can remove obstacles to the aluminum glass package.
Ho Chi Minh City commenced the project, along the Saigon River, with an investment of VND800 billion (US$32.6 million) on 18,000 square meters in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in 2013 and expected to complete it in 2015.
The city later delayed the planned completion time of the project to 2016 before putting it on hold in 2017 although it was 80 percent complete.
The facility was heralded as an icon of the southern metropolis but it has remained incomplete over the past decade, affecting the cityscape.
The Ho Chi Minh City Planning Exhibition Center is expected to be a venue for showcasing exhibits of the city’s planning and architecture as well as for meetings between experts, investors, and tourists. |
The Ho Chi Minh City administration has assigned the Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects of Ho Chi Minh City, the investor of the exhibition center, to manage it since October 2022.
The board has repeatedly contacted the contractor of the aluminum glass package but met with no cooperation from the latter.
The board has proposed terminating a contract with the contractor after informing the latter of the contract termination twice and invited it to meetings three times.
It will submit a plan to choose a new contractor to the municipal government on December 30 this year.
The project is 80 percent complete but it has been at a standstill since 2017 due to obstacles to the aluminum glass package. |
The investor was striving to accelerate the project, vice-chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc said during an inspection of the construction site on Saturday.
Several months ago, Duc asked for the removal of bottlenecks in the project to restart in in July this year but no progress has been made since then.
The Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects of Ho Chi Minh City, the investor of the exhibition center, has repeatedly contacted the contractor of the aluminum glass package but the latter refused to cooperate, so the board has proposed terminating its contract. |
The Ho Chi Minh City administration expects to recommence the planning exhibition center project in the first quarter of next year and complete it within seven months. |
The investor is striving to speed up the project to restart work on it early next year. |
The project, once completed, will help the Saigon River bank in Thu Duc City become brimful of vitality. |
