Over 35,000 sunflower seedlings will be grown on the Saigon River bank in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the upcoming 2024 New Year holiday.

When the sunflower garden comes into full bloom, the flowers will bring swaths of yellow to the Saigon bank on the Thu Thiem side.

As per the Thu Duc City administration’s plan, the sunflower field will help lure dwellers and visitors to the venue on New Year’s Day and the Lunar New Year holiday.

These sunflower saplings are being taken care of at a local nursery, and will be transplanted to the Saigon River bank on Tuesday next week.

The sunflower field is part of the city’s plan to revitalize the Saigon River bank area, which stretches approximately 830 meters in length and 50 meters in width from Ba Son Bridge to the Thu Thiem Tunnel on the Thu Thiem side in Thu Duc City.

The riverside landscape in Thu Duc City has been neglected, and left undeveloped and polluted.

The Thu Duc City People’s Committee evaluates that the revitalization of the Saigon River bank on the Thu Thiem side is of pressing importance to maintain environmental hygiene and create a landscape that matches the opposite Bach Dang Wharf in Ho Chi Minh City’s central area.

Work on site leveling, kerb construction, lighting installation, and riverside park opening components started from mid-November.

As designed, the area will encompass a multi-purpose community square, parking lots, restroom facilities, a stone park, a riverside park, an ecological park, a floating raft system for aquatic plants, a fountain, and a sunflower field.

Additionally, the plan involves the design of a fireworks area and the installation of LED systems for advertising.
