Police in Binh Duong Province, southern Vietnam have joined hands with the Chinese police to detain a 34-year-old Chinese man who was a subject of an Interpol red notice for allegedly trafficking 13 Vietnamese women, a local officer said on Wednesday.
The Chinese man, named Liu Peiguang, was investigated over human trafficking allegations by police in Liaocheng City of Shandong Province.
Investigation results revealed that between June 2016 and March 2019, Liu and his accomplices gained the 13 Vietnamese women’s trust with promises to introduce jobs to them, connect them with wealthy Chinese men, or help them to enter China illegally.
Liu later trafficked in the 13 victims for 100,000-150,000 yuan (US$13,957-20,935) each, illegally earning a profit of 1.5 million yuan ($209,622).
After the Chinese police discovered the case, Liu fled to Vietnam and worked for a company in Tan Uyen City, Binh Duong Province.
The Binh Duong police have transferred Liu to their Liaocheng counterparts for further investigation.
