Ho Chi Minh City will hold fireworks displays at eight venues to usher in the 2024 Lunar New Year, up two locations from last year, a representative of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports told a press conference on Thursday.

In particular, the city will organize high-altitude fireworks shows at two sites—Saigon River Tunnel in Thu Duc City and Ben Duoc Martyrs Memorial Temple in Cu Chi District.

Meanwhile, low-altitude fireworks will light up the sky over six locations, including the Ben Noc Memorial Temple in Thu Duc City, Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11, Rung Sac Square in Can Gio District, Lang Le Bau Co Historical Site in Binh Chanh District, Go Vap Cultural Park in Go Vap District, and the Nga Ba Giong Historical Site in Hoc Mon District, the department’s representative added.

The shows will last 15 minutes from 0:00 to 0:15 on February 10, or the first day of the 2024 Lunar New Year.

Last year, Ho Chi Minh City held fireworks displays at six locations, comprising a memorial of martyrs in Binh Chanh District, Can Thanh Town in Can Gio District, the Saigon River Tunnel, Ben Noc Memorial Temple, Dam Sen Cultural Park, and Ben Duoc Martyrs Memorial Temple.

This year, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs will coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City administration to organize a program on February 1 and 2 for Tet celebrations for overseas Vietnamese returning to the homeland.

The city will also organize flower markets, a banh tet (a glutinous rice cake typically eaten during the Lunar New Year holiday in Vietnam) festival, a book street festival, and Nguyen Hue Flower Street during the Tet holiday.
