-- Quang Tri Province in north-central Vietnam plans to expand reforestation efforts by adding 10,000 hectares of forests without burning vegetation by 2028, thereby cutting emissions by 600,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, a local agriculture official said on Sunday.

-- Rescuers in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam are searching for a man who went missing while swimming at a local beach with his friends on Sunday afternoon, as well as a fisherman who remains unaccounted for after his fishing boat sank around the same time.

-- Phan Van Mai, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, has tasked the investor of the city’s metro line No. 1 with devising a plan to either wave or reduce fares to incentivize its usage among the public once the first phase of the project is put into operation in July.

-- Local authorities spent over four hours extinguishing a blaze that burned about one hectare of Melaleuca forest adjacent to Phu Quoc National Park in the island city of Phu Quoc, off Kien Giang Province in southern Vietnam, on Sunday.

-- About 120 out of 191 individuals who managed to overpower security guards and escape a drug rehabilitation facility in Soc Trang Province, southern Vietnam on Saturday returned to the establishment voluntarily on Sunday.

-- Vietnam’s state-run lottery company Vietlott announced on Sunday the winner of the American-style Mega 6/45 jackpot worth over VND13 billion (US$527,600).


-- Vietnam’s tea exports surged to nearly 12,000 metric tons in January, valued at over $21 million, marking an impressive 85-percent increase in both volume and value compared to the same period in 2023, according to the General Department of Customs. Notably, Pakistan remained Vietnam’s top tea export destination, accounting for more than 4,500 metric tons and nearly $9.2 million in revenue.


-- Vietnamese movie ‘Cu Li Never Cries’ by director Pham Ngoc Lan won the best first feature prize at the Berlinale Film Festival on Saturday.


-- “Liverpool won the League Cup by beating Chelsea 1-0 through a late extra-time goal from captain Virgil van Dijk after a fierce end-to-end battle at Wembley on Sunday,” Reuters reported.
