High tide inundated many streets and houses in My Tho City, the capital of Tien Giang Province in southern Vietnam, on Monday, causing immense challenges for local residents, Nguyen Duc Thinh, head of the office of the provincial steering committee for natural disaster prevention, search, and rescue, said on Monday.
The Trung Luong Intersection, where National Highway 1 intersects with Hung Vuong Street, was submerged, causing significant inconvenience for commuters.
Some other streets, such as Ap Bac and Hung Vuong, as well as the Cau Cong Market area were also flooded.
Locals had to put their household appliances up in high places to avoid damage.

Nguyen Thi Phuong, a resident of My Tho, said the tide rose suddenly in the early hours of Monday, soaking her family’s appliances and breaking them.
According to the provincial hydro-meteorological station, Tien Giang will experience high tide six more times until August.
