Authorities in Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam and Ulyanovsk City of Russia on Tuesday held the inauguration ceremony for a statue of Vladimir Lenin in Vinh City, the capital of the Vietnamese province.
Nghe An is the homeland of late President Ho Chi Minh, a revolutionary icon in Vietnam.
The inauguration of the 4.5-metric-ton, 3.6-meter-tall pure copper statue was meant to commemorate the 154th birthday anniversary of the late Russian leader (April 22, 1870 – April 22, 2024).
The statue is a symbol of the partnership between Vietnam and Russia.
Speaking at the ceremony, vice-chairman of the Nghe An People’s Committee Bui Dinh Long said the relations between Vietnam and Russia had developed strongly.
Nghe An Province and Ulyanovsk, the birthplace of Lenin, established their cooperative partnership in 1990.
A five-meter-tall full-body bronze statue of late President Ho Chi Minh was erected in Ulyanovsk in 2017, Long informed.
The Lenin statue in Vinh City serves as a cultural and artistic emblem symbolizing the friendship between the two regions.
Nghe An Province and Ulyanovsk City will tighten their collaboration in investment, trade, healthcare, education and training, as well as tourism in the future, Long added.

Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko described the Lenin statue as a fresh symbol of friendship and cooperation, not only between Ulyanovsk and Nghe An, but also between Vietnam and Russia.
The statue was crafted from pure copper in Ulyanovsk and gifted by the Russian city to Nghe An.
It is situated at the intersection of V.I.Lenin Boulevard and Nguyen Phong Sac Street in Vinh City.
The statue’s venue, completed in June 2020, spans an area of 1,036.5 square meters.
