An area of land along a swamp in Tan Tao Ward, Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City is littered with medical waste, including glass bottles containing liquid and bearing a ‘corrosive’ warning label.

The land plot is surrounded by a few houses, and is about 800 meters from Tay Lan Street.

Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters observed on Sunday that the land lot was filled with various types of medical waste, emitting a foul smell.

A dense layer of waste, paired with ashes, turned the area into a mucky land.

Many fluid bags with yellow and red liquid inside were scattered over the surface of the plot.

Thousands of glass bottles and vials were piled on the land, particularly, several bottles bearing ‘corrosive’ or ‘flammable’ warning labels.

Many of the glass bottles are broken.

Some locals nearby said that they have been suffering an unpleasant odor from the dump.

“It is unknown when the medical waste was dumped on the land plot. If I had seen someone disposing of it, I would not have allowed them to do so,” a local resident said.

A representative of the Tan Tao Ward People’s Committee said on Sunday afternoon that the administration would examine the area and handle the illegal dump.
